DRS North Texas Disputes, Rights & Settlements

Advertise on DRS North Texas

DRS North Texas sells two kinds of advertising, both at a flat fee for a fixed period: sponsor placements and mediator listings. Both appear in clearly marked spaces beside the guides. Write to team@drsnorthtexas.org for current rates and open dates.

What you can buy

Sponsor placements

A sponsor placement is a short entry with your name, one line of text and a link to your own website. Placements are sold by the month or by the year and appear in these spaces:

  • the five city pages, for Fort Worth, Arlington, Dallas, Denton and Plano, plus the North Texas section page
  • the section pages for settlements, disputes and rights
  • the sidebar of individual guides, each of which has its own space

Mediator listings

Mediators can buy a listing in the mediators section of the find help page. Listings are sorted alphabetically. Every mediator listing uses the same format, whether or not the mediator is a lawyer.

How every placement is labelled

Each advertising space carries the heading "Advertisement" and this line, word for word: "Paid placement. DRS North Texas does not recommend or rank advertisers." The label sits next to the placement itself, not only on this page. Links to advertisers are marked as sponsored in the page code.

No space is ever sold exclusively. A space holds as many advertisers as buy into it, on the same terms, and they appear in alphabetical order. Nobody can pay to appear first, to appear larger, or to keep a competitor off a page, a topic or a city.

Placements from lawyers and law firms

When the advertiser is a lawyer or a law firm, the placement also shows the name of the responsible lawyer and that lawyer's primary practice location. Texas Disciplinary Rule 7.02(a) requires an advertisement of legal services to publish the name of a lawyer responsible for its content and to identify the lawyer's primary practice location, and the placement format leaves room for both.

Comment 11 to Rule 7.03 states that a lawyer may pay the usual costs of printed or online directory listings or advertisements, and sponsorship fees. Rule 7.03(e) bars a lawyer from paying or giving anything of value to a person not licensed to practice law for soliciting or referring prospective clients, apart from nominal gifts of appreciation, and Rule 7.03(e)(1) says the rule does not stop a lawyer from paying reasonable fees for advertising and public relations services. Placements here are sold only as advertising, at a flat fee for a fixed period.

Lawyer advertisers remain responsible for their own compliance with the State Bar's advertising rules. Under Rule 7.04(a), unless an exemption in Rule 7.05 applies, a lawyer must file a copy of an advertisement with the State Bar of Texas Advertising Review Committee no later than ten days after the date it is disseminated, along with an application and a fee. The site does not file for advertisers or advise them on exemptions.

What the site does not do

Advertising buys a space on a page. It does not buy readers. DRS North Texas:

  • does not refer readers to any advertiser, and never describes itself or its listings as a referral service
  • does not sell leads, collect reader contact details, or pass any reader information to advertisers
  • does not contact readers by phone, text, message or email on an advertiser's behalf
  • does not charge per lead, per call, per click, or per case
  • does not offer any quiz or tool that takes a reader's facts and picks an advertiser
  • does not let advertisers see, edit or influence the guides

The site also takes no affiliate commission on any product or service delivered by a lawyer. Any affiliate links are limited to self-help products that no lawyer delivers, such as online divorce document services or co-parenting apps. Any affiliate link will be marked as sponsored, and the page that carries it will say so.

Getting started

The North Texas disputes and settlements guides are written for readers, not for advertisers, and placements sit beside that content without changing it, as the editorial policy explains. Email team@drsnorthtexas.org with the spaces you are interested in, your name or firm name, the one line you would like to run and the website it should link to. Lawyer advertisers should include the responsible lawyer's name and primary practice location. Placements run only after they fit this site's placement format. DRS North Texas does not review placements for compliance with the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct; that is the advertiser's responsibility.
